Untold Stories: Episode One Overview.

Mental health consideration rates have been on the rise following the start of the pandemic in 2019/20. While the world has become more accepting, accommodating, and supportive of individuals diagnosed with certain disorders - reported cases are at an all-time high.

Here at Rooting for You!, we are all about mental-wellbeing and peer support. No one is alone, even though it may feel that way from time to time! Our team decided it may be beneficial to our members struggling with mental health diagnoses/considerations/symptoms to hear real stories from real people - openly and genuinely.

We are thrilled to present to you: The Untold Stories Podcast - "Voices from Lived Experience." In episode one, titled Real People, Real Sh*t, join six diagnosed individuals in sharing their personal experiences with their disorders. 💖

  • Jay (a member of Rooting for You!).
Below is a short overview of the topics being covered (in order of):

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Attention-Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD):

Diagnosed in October 2023, Em is an individual many would not suspect to have ADHD. Receiving perfect grades in school, staying organized... it was a shock to her teachers and family to learn of the diagnosis. But, the symptoms were always present. Em dives into her childhood experiences and early symptoms, discussing what many people do not talk about the disorder - namely comorbidities and the emotional side of ADHD.

Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD):

Freya opens up about his experiences with BPD. He advocates for and explores the stigma surrounding the disorder. Freya thoroughly dives into the potential causes and exhibiting symptoms of BPD, all whilst sharing personal anecdotes and notions.

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD):

Sheriff has experienced OCD symptoms for quite some time. Life can be difficult to navigate when you are uncertain of what to do about your obsessions and compulsions - especially if undiagnosed. Sheriff opens up and explicitly shares stories about his experiences with the disorder.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD):

Being profoundly knowledgeable in the field, Panic thoroughly discusses autism, the stigma around it, her experiences with it, and many (many, many, many) facts about the disorder.

Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID):

Closely related to BPD, DID is quite a controversial diagnosis, with many professionals believing it is simply a severe form of BPD. Earth is excited to answer questions about the disorder and clear up any false views. They face the stigma head-on!

Gender Dysphoria:

Recently emerging as transgender, Jay finally tackles her gender dysphoria. She opens up and shares experiences to comfort and validate others with gender dysphoric symptoms.

We applaud every panelist for opening up and sharing their stories with our audience, we know it's not easy. Together, let's break the stigma!
