Plant-Themed Fun - Our Top 5 Games
Here at Rooting for You!, we like to have fun! We try to host events with digital games so our members can engage with us over Discord. However, there are not many digital plant-themed games out there. Let's dive into some board games you can purchase to share with your real-life friends and family! Let us know your favourite!

5. Everdell (2018)
A thrilling 40-80 minute long game designed for up to four players! Interestingly enough, one can even play Everdell by themselves.
This game's layout is the most unique, although, we still place it at #5. The tree-inspired board caught out attention. While we do not own Everdell, it had to make this list. (The reason it's in our last slot though is because of its price!)
Everdell is a worker placement and building board game where players take on the role of woodland creatures building a thriving city through the seasons. Each player starts with a few workers and can send them to locations on the board to gather resources like twigs, resin, pebbles, and berries. These resources are used to play cards representing buildings and critters into their city, which grant various bonuses and effects. As the game progresses through spring, summer, and autumn, players gain more workers and opportunities. The game ends after winter, and the player with the most points from their city’s cards and special achievements wins.

4. Herbaceous (2017)
This unique card game is designed to be played by one to four players. Each game consists of 15-20 minutes, and can be a fun, multiple-round party or travel game.
This is a good travel game, given one can play by themselves, as well. The box is compact and can fit into a bag easily. Unlike the houseplant and flower theme of the other games in this list, herbs are highlighted here.
Herbaceous is a relaxing and strategic card game where players collect and pot sets of herbs to earn points. Each turn, a player draws two herb cards - placing one into a shared community garden and one into their private garden. At any time on their turn before drawing, a player can pot herbs from both gardens into one of four containers, each with specific rules (e.g., all of one type, all different, pairs, or any mix). Timing is crucial, as once a container is used, it can’t be used again. The game ends when all herb cards are drawn, and the player with the most points from their potted herbs wins.
3. Verdant (2022)
Verdant is a cozy, plant-themed mix of a card and board game consisting of 45-60 minute games for a minimum of one, or a maximum of five players.
Verdant is similar to our #1 game, but it nevertheless places #3; however, if we we ranking content, it would be #1. The amount of plants included absolutely floored us! We were thoroughly impressed.
Verdant is a spatial puzzle game where players compete to create the coziest indoor space by placing houseplant and room cards in a personal grid/play space. On each turn, players select a plant or room card along with an adjacent item token (like furniture or pets) from a shared market. They place the card in their grid and assign the item token to a suitable space. Players aim to match plants with rooms that provide their preferred lighting conditions and use item tokens and green thumbs to boost growth. Players also place pot tokens to track plant progress, and fully grown plants score extra points. The game ends when everyone has filled their grid, and the player with the most points from plant growth, room variety, and decor wins.

2. Floriferous (2021)
While we do not own Floriferous, this game HAD to make our list! The art is beautiful, and the flower-focus and theme is engaging and unique.
Floriferous is a serene set-collection card game where players stroll through a flower garden over three days (rounds), selecting cards to create harmonious arrangements. Each day, players move along rows of garden cards, choosing one card per column to add to their collection. These cards include flowers, desires (goals), arrangements, stones, and sculptures, each offering points in different ways. Strategic drafting and timing are key, as players try to fulfill their desires and score bonus points from arrangements and sculptures. After three rounds, the player with the most beautifully composed and high-scoring collection wins.

1. Planted (2022)
Planted can be played with two to five players, and games can consist of roughly 20-30 minutes depending on the amount of players present. Because all turns happen simultaneously, the rounds can be pretty quick once you get into the groove of things!
Being a personal favourite of ours, Planted deserves its #1 slot on our list. The art is stunning and the gameplay is unique. This is the only game on our list that cannot be played solo, though. Em says: "Planted is a game I bought on a whim - I love plants and work at a toy store, so it seemed to be perfect. Upon playing my first game, it jumped to be my number one favourite! The materials, cards, and board is of utmost quality and I was genuinely pleased with what I purchased."
Planted is an engaging board game where players care for a collection of houseplants by gathering resources and using them effectively. Over four rounds, players draft cards that provide plants, resources (like water, sunlight, and plant food), and useful tools or decorations. After drafting, players allocate their collected resources to their plants to keep them healthy and help them grow. Each plant has specific care requirements, and fulfilling these earns growth points. At the end of the game, players score points for healthy plants, bonuses from item cards, and leftover resources. The player with the most points wins, proving to be the best plant parent.
